We will begin gathering at 6:30 PM on October 27at the BP Energy Center at the corner of the Seward Highway and Benson Blvd.  The program will be presented by Fred Clarke of Sunset Valley Orchids and will begin at 7:00 PM.  Fred presented a program for us a few years ago and was one of our all-time most popular speakers.  His program will be about Catasetinae.  When Fred was last here he brought a number of these gorgeous plants for sale, including his famous black orchid, Fredclarkeara After Dark.  This is a group of plants we seldom see available from our guest speakers and never in the big box stores.  They are quite doable here in our area with just a little attention.  For one thing, many of them are deciduous and require little to no care during the winter months.  Fred is offering a 10% discount and free "shipping" to our club members on preorders.  You will want to get an early start looking over his large website and the goodies he has to offer--I have added a link to Sunset Valley Orchids on our "Links" page.  To place a preorder please check out his webpage at sunsetvalleyorchids.com--there's a lot to see there.  Once you have decided what you would like to purchase email your order to him at fred.clarke@att.net and he will bring them when he comes up.  I'm not sure what the cutoff date might be, but I would recommend giving him at least the better part of a week before his trip.  He will also have additional orchids for sale at the meeting.  I would suggest getting to the BP Energy Center at 6:30 pm so you can do some shopping before the program.  Fred is an internationally known hybridizer of orchids with a special interest in Catasetinae.   This is a not-to-be-missed program.
